Congratulations on standing by your value systems. Corporations, including NGOs, do compromise, when it involves the funders. As you have rightly said, the US is turning increasingly fascist, as are many other parts of the world. Wishing you luck in finding your own little idealistic corner of the world. Cultivating detachment might help you walk away. It may be a good lesson for all of us to take too, as the new year dawns. A Happy 2026 to you.

i left a safer feeling job hunt and career field in the us to chase a crazy dream in india 3 months ago with immense fear and trepidation and despite the challenges, haven’t regretted it for a moment. excited to follow along your journey of it too <3

Leaving the path that feels safe often isn’t about boldness first — it’s about honesty with yourself. What looks secure can become a trap when it no longer aligns with how you actually want to live. Thanks for putting that into words.

you're right! I don't feel "bold" at all, quite the opposite. i'm scared of what this next era will bring, but optimistic in my ability to figure it out. thank you for reading!

i, too, work with a reproductive justice organization. it's fortunately more community-based, but i fear that our leadership has chosen the route of complicity and avoidance over action. what worries me most at this time is the insistence on in-person events, as if ICE isn't prowling on the streets. about 2/3 of our client are vulnerable as immigrants and refugees.

while leadership continues to insist on in-person events, they shy away from public statements or action to "avoid attention." there's even talk of pre-emptively removing stats or inclusive descriptions of our communities' demographics - ie erasing "people of color" and opting for women instead of birthing people.

before this job, i already felt cynical and jaded about the nonprofit sector. 2025 has cemented that. tl;dr - give your money and time to mutual aid networks.

i'm so sorry that your previous employer scapegoated you after giving the green light to share resources on Palestine. even more so, i'm angry that they chose Zionist funding over the right thing to do.

i'm glad that you had the capacity to make the life-changing choice to leave and that you chose your own peace rather than complicity. may i be as brave as you in 2026.

such scary changes! the only silver lining here is knowing that people like you continue to hold these groups accountable in whatever capacity. stay safe, friend, and thank you for the kind words. hope this new year brings peace and joy to you! <3

Gosh this was such a beautiful read my friend. I am so excited for this next chapter and nostalgic for the rituals and routines you built in Houston. I’m excited to continue some of them when you’re close by ❤️
